Health Care for America. NOW

Presently our nation's health care is a mix of single payer plans for a select few and a tight group of mega-corporate insurance companies.

While most developed nations provide for universal care for their citizens, the United States prefers to let people fly solo...if they can.  Choice in America is related, not to your medical need but by your financial status.

Vets are included in a single payer plan run by the government as is anyone on Medicare..it works so any argument that the US can't run such a plan is lying and ignoring the truth.  Congress and Federal workers are also covered by the government.  You don't see anyone in Congress complaining about their own care.

For the first time in decades we finally have a mandate and the power to change health care.  Plans have been approved by both the House and the Senate but there are still road blocks being thrown up by both Republicans and some Democrats.

While Republicans seem to be able to unite and work as one...even if for an evil purpose, Democrats can't seem to get with the program.

Recent leaked memos from inside the RNC indicate that they fully intend to do all they can to stall any meaningful reform.

Personally this author ( Paul Kruger ) is not concered with the fate of private insurance companies.  Congress should be concerned with the heath of citizens, not the protection of private profits.  A private plan could assure every American Citizen has access to affordable care regardless of their financial status.

No private company is ever going to give free insurance to a person unable to pay the premium...and many can't.  With an estimated 14,000 people per day losing their coverage it is time to provide an alternative that does not include a 30% markup to plow into private bank accounts as profit.  The doctors and hospitals don't care who pays them.

One of the reasons so many lose their coverage is that the rising costs of insurance often force employers to drop coverage. A private plan priced based on ability to pay and without corporat profits plugged in would lower the cost of providing insurance to employees.  The big companies can either compete or die...personally that is of little concern as there will always be those with the cash willing to pay a premium for "special" care insurance.

It is time we call, write and fax our representatives to make sure they understand that America's citizens health comes before any corporate profits.
